Basic Techniques In Buying A Spirometer

By Tiffany Gill

Spirometer is an instrument used to check the volume of the air being breathe in and out. This is also used to determine the health condition of the lungs of the patient. There are other types of this that do not just check the volume but also help improve the functions of the lungs. And since this is an apparatus not really that needed, patients prefer to pay on clinics just to have them checked. As a physician, this can also be helpful for your patient and can also be a good investment.

As a physician, you are to know the important things to remember when buying such product for your clinic. There are various kinds already available in the market and you should know the type that your patients really need. As a pulmonologist, it is your responsibility to know your patients well and to keep yourself updated on everything that is related into your field.

Warn yourself not to buy the cheapest spirometer you can see. Remember, it is a good investment for you already have your patients. The only thing for you to do is to ask them to run the test or not. What you will pay is what you will get sooner. And it is not very ideal to buy the cheapest because there is a cliche that the cheaper the product the poorer its performance. Just believe in that.

Buying it from a new manufacturer is not ideal for some circumstances. The company is always liable for the maintenance of your instrument most especially if your unit has warranty. But you cannot file any complain about it if the company is not functioning anymore due to bankruptcy. And this means that it is now your liability to find someone to check on your unit from time to time which is not ideal.

Consider the disposable sensor. You should buy the one that uses disposable sensors because you are to work with different patients and it is so unlikely to let them wait because you are still sterilizing the sensor. It is only ideal for single usage. Anyway you will not worry for you can ask additional payment from you patients for it.

Do not purchase if you think that it is not user friendly. One of the reasons why some are cheap, because these are not user friendly. And user friendly spirometers are important in order to avoid any problems especially life after death situations.

The maintenance must be checked, ask if there are cleaning routines for it that your staff can manage and what are the maintenance parts that need to be managed by an expert. After sales service is very important because this will keep your instrument to survive. If you will not maintain it then it will easily give up.

Inform your staff first. Spirometry is another service and your employee might think that this will be another burden for them. Assure them that you bought an easy one and does not take much effort.

Owning a spirometer will help your service more effective for your patient. Though this would be another charge for them but at least you can assure their safety. Do not forget that you are doing this to help them and not to leech them.
