Botox Trends

By Ariel Mernal

Botox injections are nowadays popular as a 'quick fix' solution to younger looking skin. Botox injections have become commonplace in recent times for those who have facial wrinkles and lines, and would like to attain a more youthful appearance. What was once probably thought to be a procedure whose novelty might wear off one day is nowadays considered to be one that is here to stay.

There are sections in newspapers and magazines and segments on television that are dedicated to celebrities that have had botox in order to make their skin look more youthful. There are those who are thinking about the popularity of botox, and wondering why it has gotten so widely accepted.

There is a very basic reason for this. Botox is a cheap and effective solution to ageing skin. It's a fast treatment, there are no scars which can happen from plastic surgery, and it is pretty easy on the bank account. Celebrities have made botox a household name, and because of this, many more people are now choosing to undergo these treatments.

Botox for men?

There is a common misconception that botox injections are sought after by women and women alone. This is far from the truth. Even though the procedure is more often performed on women, men are getting botox treatments more often nowadays. There are those in the media who have coined the term 'bro-tox'. It's even about 50/50 men and women in certain clinics that administer botox treatments.

The trends are always evolving

Botox is becoming more popular all the time. It is estimated that the number of men and women who underwent botox injection rose from 2010 to 2011 by around 5% - that's a rise from 5.4 million to 5.7 million people. Newer estimates suggest an annual rise of around 10% every year. Most people see these numbers and are not surprised by them. There used to be those in society that looked down upon people who have botox treatments, and it was thought to only be done by the richest people, but this is no longer the case, and it is becoming widely accepted by people of all classes and economic situations. It has now become a well recognized and widely accepted surgical procedure.

That is only part of the story. Many other non-cosmetic disorders can be treated by botox injections, including muscle spasticity disorders and other chronic conditions. Spastic paraparesis and cerebral palsy for adults and children, and blepharospasm are included in the other treatments that botox can be helpful for. The benefits are looking good and the results are more than satisfactory. Botox injections can be used to treat excessive sweating, and some have found success in using scalp injections to help to treat migraine headaches.

It's plain to see that botox is only gaining in popularity. There are always new studies being done and improvements being made, and the benefits of these treatments seem to be growing in number all the time.
