Considering Botox?

By Alina H. Winamaker

To smooth away the frown lines between the eyebrows that both men and women get in middle age, and for other facial wrinkles, Botox can be used under prescription. Most often it is used to smooth out lines. Most people have this type of cosmetic improvement because they feel the lines on their forehead make them look tired or even angry.

If you have an allergy to any of the ingredients of Botox, you should not consider this treatment. You shouldn't go ahead if there is an infection in the skin surrounding the area being injected - as common sense dictates. Before a treatment, tell your physician if you have any issues such as asthma that affect your breathing.

How does it work?

Usually, wrinkles in the skin form beside a muscle that is close to it, normally beneath it.Botox injected into those muscles restricts nerve impulses going to the tissue that is causing the wrinkle. The skin supported by the muscle stops being creased by constant expression contractions by this limited or no muscle movement. Lines and wrinkles stop forming when muscle contractions are inhibited. The person gets a more youthful look as a result, when frown lines and other wrinkles are reduced.

Botox injections is a non-invasive procedure that is often used for wrinkles, and it takes less than 30 minutes. The site to be treated receives an injection of a small amount of Botox. As the Botox starts working, it blocks the nerve signals to the muscles under the skin. The muscle becomes relaxed and the skin smooths, which makes facial lines diminish.

The skin might be a bit red and sore after the Botox Injection Treatment, but this is normally minor and goes away after a few days. A patient can usually leave the clinic straight away and return to work the same day. It may take up to a week to maximize the full effect, but the treatment usually starts to work within 3 days.

Post-Treatment

The first thing you need to do following your procedure is to try to exercise your treated muscles for one to two hours. Squinting, frowning and raising your eyebrows should all be practiced. This will work the Botox into your muscles. This can be helpful, but if you forget or don't have the time, it won't impact your results negatively.

Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated areas and, for 4 hours after the treatment, do not do yoga, heavy lifting or any type of strenuous exercise. Moreover, do not ingest Advil, Tylenol or vitamin D after the procedure.

If, after the procedure, you see some tiny bumps or marks on your face, do not be concerned. They will disappear in a few hours.

If you decide to have a Botox treatment, make sure whoever is doing it is trained specifically in this procedure. This type of treatment is a medical procedure, and should be seen in this way.
