If you are considering jumping on the weight-loss train, chances are, this may not be your first ride. The simple fact is, diets can be difficult to follow, and most attempts at weight loss fail. That, however, does not mean that it can not be done! This article contains some great tips and advice to get you started on the track to weight-loss success.

Keep a personal food journal that documents what you eat and when. Believe it or not, if you can't visually see what you have eaten, you could mistake your craving for hunger or feel that you haven't consumed too many calories or too much fatty food for the day. If you can see what you have eaten and when, you are more likely to refrain from unhealthy snacks and extra morsels you don't need.

When trying to lose weight, aim to consume 25 grams of fiber during the day. Fiber will make you feel fuller for longer so you will be less likely to snack between meals. Good sources of fiber include whole wheat bread, brown rice, beans, nuts and fresh and dried fruits.

A great tip for people who are trying to lose weight while eating out is to stay away from complementary food items. Many places will give you all you can eat bread, chips or some other snack that can cause you to overeat. Tell the waiter to take away anything you do not order.

Eat in front of a mirror. Studies have shown that eating in front of a mirror pushes people to eat less. More likely than not, a person will become self-conscious in front of a mirror and feel like someone is watching them eat even though they are the ones judging themselves.

Try to make sure that you have a little bit of lean protein in all of your meals. Protein tends to fill you up more than carbohydrates or fats. That is why it is important that you continue to eat protein, as it can help you stay fuller for a longer period of time.

When cooking with meat, one trick to stretching it, is to pound it flat before you cook it. You will be cooking much thiner pieces, which will cut way back on the amount of cooking time. You will also tend to eat less since the meat will go a lot farther than taking thick bites.

Believe it or not, decaffeinated coffee can be a very useful tool in weight loss! For many people coffee is comforting so it can really help you when you are craving something that will not be good for your diet and it also contains anti-oxidants which are beneficial to your body, so have a soothing cup of decaf to help you lose weight!

You might have different cravings associated with each other, for instance thirst and hunger. Next time you feel hungry outside of your regular eating hours, try drinking a cool glass of water. If that satisfies your craving, you have to train your body to recognize the difference between thirst and hunger.

The weight-loss train is about to leave the station, and what you have learned here is your ticket to success. Once you make the commitment and decide that you are in this for the long haul, you are well on your way to achieving and maintaining a healthy weight.
